New Escambia facility to be built where old one blew up

At a meeting Thursday night, the commission voted to rebuild the county jail on or near its original location

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — After 19 months of going round and round about a location for a new jail, Escambia County commissioners ended up right where they started.

For a lot of people, that’s a good thing.

At a meeting Thursday night, the commission voted to rebuild the county jail on or near its original location, close to the intersection of Pace Boulevard and Fairfield Drive. The decision came after many citizens vocally opposed all three of the locations the county was considering for a new detention facility.
