SAVANNAH, Ga. — A trial is underway for three Georgia jail employees charged in the death of a young inmate who died after being hit with a stun gun while restrained.

WTOC-TV reports a panel of 12 jurors and four alternates has been selected to hear the trial of two former Chatham County jail workers and a contract health care employee. Opening statements were given Tuesday.

Authorities have said 21-year-old Mathew Ajibade was found dead strapped to a restraint chair at the Savannah-based jail hours after his arrest on a domestic violence charge Jan. 1.

Prosecutors say Cpl. Jason Kenny shocked the restrained Ajibade four times with a Taser. Cpl. Maxine Evans and nurse Gregory Brown are accused of failing to check Ajibade’s condition and with faking jail records.
