Texas county jail looking for signs of Ebola in inmates

Jail has been in contact with the CDC for a plan of attack should the virus appear in the facility

HOUSTON, Texas — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is screening inmates for potential signs of Ebola.

Click2Houston reports that the jail has been in contact with the CDC for a plan of attack should the virus appear in the facility.

“Because we screen a large proportion of the population, a number of whom have traveled, we felt it was out of an abundance of caution to identify these individuals,” said Michael Seal, the jail’s doctor.

The plan is to ask inmates for immediate travel history and other risk factors; it was implemented Tuesday, and so far no one is being monitored for Ebola.

They are also screening people via 911 dispatchers.
