Detainee in Wis. jail shows no signs of Ebola

Situation has jail rethinking relationship with ICE

KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Though a woman being detained at the Kenosha County Jail has shown no signs of Ebola, concerns have the sheriff’s department rethinking its relationship with ICE.

The Sun Times reports that the detainee being held by the prison has been released to ICE officials.

“We understand you can’t run from this,” said Sgt. Bill E. Beth. He explained that Sheriff David Beth, top administrators and the health provider company at the jail held a meeting to go over “what ifs” and Sheriff Beth was “going to sleep on it.”

ICE says it was not their office that took the detainee into custody at O’Hare International Airport but the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department has housed federal inmates at the county jail for the past 10 years, but this is the first time they’ve received someone from a country involved in the Ebola virus situation.
