LUBBOCK, Texas — A veteran Texas Department of Criminal Justice corrections officer died July 4 from COVID-19 complications.

KWTX.com reported that Kenneth Harbin, 60, was admitted to a hospital on June 28 after testing postive for the novel coronavirus. He’s the ninth TDCJ corrections officer diagnosed with COVID-19 to die.

“Every death of one of our own is a tragic loss,” Bryan Collier, TDCJ executive director, said. “The thoughts and prayers of his family in gray are with Officer Harbin’s loved ones and friends. He will not be forgotten.”

Harbin, a 30-year TDCJ veteran, worked at the Daniel Unit in Snyder.

“He was a selfless person and gave all he could to those he loved,” Michael Britt, Daniel Unit Senior Warden, said.
