Veteran La. corrections officer dies from COVID-19

Rose Goudy, who worked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for more than 20 years, was described as a mother figure to the employees at the facility

GRETNA, La. — A veteran Louisiana corrections officer died after contracting COVID-19.

WDSU.com reported that Rose Goudy, who worked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for more than 20 years, was described as a mother figure to the employees at the facility.

“She was a great person and obviously, it’s a huge loss to the family there at the correctional center and our entire JPSO family,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said.

On Thursday, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., a drive-by memorial will be held outside the correctional center. “Hopefully, we can do something a little bit better, you know, when all this stuff calms down,” Sheriff Lopinto said.

Friends, family members and colleagues can drive or walk by to pay their respects to Goudy.
