FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. — Three correctional officers at the Fresno County Jail tested positive for the coronavirus, the sheriff’s office announced Tuesday.

The news comes after last week’s announcement that 13 inmates tested positive for COVID-19 and at least 1,200 inmates inside Fresno County’s North Annex jail were placed in quarantine.

The sheriff’s office and the health department are investigating if other officers and inmates were affected and if other measures need to be taken.

The increased infections inside the jail prompted the Fresno courts to extend the $0 bail policy for most prisoners due to “unforeseen circumstances” related to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases.
