CRANSTON, R.I. — A second correctional officer working in the Adult Correctional Institutions’ intake center has tested positive for the coronavirus and 13 more staff members remain in quarantine, according to correctional officials.

The officer who tested positive this week had been quarantined in response to another officer testing positive for COVID-19 last week. Contact tracing identified 13 staff with whom the second officer had been in contact, leading them to be placed in quarantine, according to a state Department of Corrections Facebook post.

Further restrictions were placed on movements at the intake service center, where male inmates are housed as they await trial. It has an average prisoner population of 1,030.

About 2,500 prisoners are housed at the ACI.
