An inmate got to the downed quadracopter before officers, swallowing the attached drugs

DUBLIN, Ireland — A quadracopter tasked with delivering drugs into an Irish prison facility crash-landed in the yard, but the delivery was made when an inmate got to the device before officers.

The Independent reports that the inmate pulled the drugs off the drone and swallowed them before officers could arrive. He has been placed in a solitary cell until the drugs pass through his system.

The drone knocked against wires meant to prevent helicopters from landing and crashed to the ground; a group of inmates were allegedly waiting for it and ran toward it as it fell from the sky.

Whoever was outside the facility driving the drone attempted to get it to take off again, but it was too badly damaged.

A digital memory card on the drone recorded its exact route and shows the smugglers carried out a trial run before the failed attempt.

The drone has been turned over to police, who are conducting an investigation toward who was flying it.
