DAYTON, Ohio — A former Ohio milkman today admitted smuggling drugs into Lebanon Correctional Institution in milk cartons, according to a press release issued by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Friday, Ray Adams Jr., 50, of Amanda, entered the plea to a charge of illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility during a hearing in Warren County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Robert Peeler is scheduled to sentence Adams on May 8.
According to the press release, Adams, a delivery driver for United Dairy, was delivering milk to the prison on Jan. 8 when investigators approached him about conveying contraband into the prison.
When the delivery truck was searched, investigators located 30 milk cartons that contained marijuana, tobacco, and 12 cell phones. Adams said he had been approached by an inmate to bring contraband into the prison.
Adams admitted to meeting with an individual the day prior to exchange milk cartons for $200 and being paid about $2,000 for delivering contraband to the prison. Adams had $1,000 cash in his truck, which was seized and forfeited.
In February, a state trooper obtained a warrant to search the car of a recreational therapist at Warren Correctional Institution, located next to Lebanon Correctional Institution on Ohio 63 in Turtlecreek Twp.
The warrant alleged the therapist who has not been charged “has been conveying contraband, to include but not limited to tobacco, marijuana, and heroin into the prison for several years.”
Forrnshell said no other charges have yet been filed.
