ABILENE, Texas — A video containing a confession by the inmate accused of killing a Texas correctional officer was shown during the second day of the inmate’s capital murder trial Tuesday, KTAB reported.

An interview tape played prior to the confession video showed Dillion Compton, 24, denying involvement in CO Marianne Johnson’s 2016 murder.

Defense attorneys allege Compton, an inmate at the French Robertson Prison Unit in Abilene, had had a sexual relationship with Johnson before her death, the Abilene Reporter reported.

Prosecutors then played a video, recorded a few days later, in which Compton confessed to the murder, according to KTAB.

Marianne Johnson was found in a prison storage room on July 16, 2016 and taken to a local hospital, where she died. Prosecutors say she suffered internal injuries, blunt force trauma and a crushed throat.

Compton’s defense attorneys alleged that Johnson’s internal injuries were a result of “aggressive” CPR, according to the Abilene Reporter, and that she died after going into cardiac arrest after thinking she and Compton were going to be discovered.
