Baton Rouge Coroner's Report Shows TASER Use Did Not Contribute to Inmate's Death
There has been a major new development in the case of a 33-year-old Baton Rouge man who died just hours after he was hit by a taser during the course of an arrest by Lafayette police.
Officers used the taser to subdue Dwayne Dunn after he resisted arrest, while causing a disturbance in a Lafayette neighborhood.
TV 10 has obtained a copy of the coroner''s report, which shows that Dunn died from "acute cardiac arrhythmia due to acute and chronic self use of cocaine and ethanol."
The death has been ruled an accident and the autopsy report indicates the use of the taser did not contribute to Dunn''s death.
You may remember that a TV 10 investigation showed the officers who used the taser may have violated police policy.
The policy states police must take an individual hit with a taser to the hospital before booking. That did not happen in this case.
But, the autopsy shows the taser did not contribute to Dunn''s death.
