YAKIMA, Wash. -- All Yakima County jail visits will be conducted by video starting Monday, the county's Department of Corrections has announced.

Visitors will be connected with inmates at the main jail and its downtown annex through a monitor in a cubicle at the video facility at the department's Restitution Center, 2403 S. 18th St. in Union Gap.

Video visits for inmates at the county's Corrections Center on Pacific Avenue started in 2007.

Officials say the video arrangement is safer and more efficient than personal visits.
