The Alabama Department of Corrections Launches the Official State of Alabama Online Inmate Banking Deposit System
Montgomery, Ala.--(Business Wire)--The Alabama Department of Corrections recently launched the Official State of Alabama Online Inmate Banking Deposit System (https://www.alabamainteractive.org/inmateCanteen/). This interactive service has been introduced as a fast and secure way to deposit funds into an inmate's canteen account. To begin the deposit process, a user may search by inmate name or Alabama Inmate System (AIS) number. Once the appropriate inmate is selected, the user may choose to deposit $10.00 to $300.00 in the inmate’s canteen account. The user must then verify the requested deposit amount and enter their credit card information to complete the transaction. Once the transaction has been accepted by the Department of Corrections the money is automatically deposited in the inmate’s canteen account.
Prior to this interactive service, inmates primarily received funds by mailed money orders, and a number of third-party providers. All alternate methods required numerous resources to send funds and, in the event the money was denied at the facility for the inmate, the refund process took longer to finalize. Another benefit to the new online system is the ability for the correctional facilities to forward deposits. This is beneficial when the receiving inmate is transferred before the deposit is approved. Previously, this situation would result in a complete refund of the transaction and the depositor would have to conduct a new transaction. The Department of Corrections Inmate Banking Online Deposit System has significantly reduced the time it takes for an inmate to receive and access their funds.
