Ex-Warden cleared of obstructing FBI inquiry

The department determined former Los Lunas prison warden Anthony Romero did not try to obstruct an FBI investigation into the alleged rape of an inmate by a high-ranking guard in 2011

ALBUQUERQUE — An internal state Corrections Department investigation determined former Los Lunas prison warden Anthony Romero did not try to obstruct an FBI investigation into the alleged rape of an inmate by a high-ranking guard in 2011.

The department's Professional Standards Unit announced the investigation's completion at a news conference Thursday in Santa Fe, according to a news release from the department. Romero, who was reassigned last month pending the results of the probe, will return to his position as deputy director of adult prisons.
