Decision to close Pa. prison caught officials off-guard

Claims to have received a call about the closure hours before the public announcement

PITTSBURGH — The Corbett administration’s decision to close the state prison in Greensburg in just six months was made with no consultation with local elected officials.

“Were you blindsided by all this?” KDKA political editor Jon Delano asked Pa. Sen. Kim Ward at a taping of the Sunday Business Page Thursday morning.

“I was shocked,” the Greensburg Republican responded.

Ward says she received a call just hours before the public announcement.
