ROGERSVILLE — Turning a toothbrush into a weapon resulted in additional criminal charges against a Church Hill man already housed in the Hawkins County Jail.
Christopher Shane Seiber, 36, 978 Valley View Road, Church Hill, was jailed on a burglary and a failure to appear charge. Now he faces a charge of introduction of a weapon into a penal institution.
Corrections Officer Tyler A. Law reported that on January 1, 2013, he was conducting a search of the C pod at the facility.
"I was in C-205, at inmate Seiber's bunk. Inside his mat I found an item rolled in a piece of toilet paper. Upon unrolling it I found a toothbrush that had a melted end with a piece of metal in it," Law wrote.
The officer said that he asked Seiber if the item was his and the inmate "nodded yes."
"Upon further inspection I concluded that his item could be used a weapon," Law noted.
