2 Alaska troopers shot, wounded in Arctic town

Officials say two Alaska State Troopers have been shot in a remote town north of the Arctic Circle and a standoff continued with an armed suspect

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Officials say two Alaska State Troopers have been shot in a remote town north of the Arctic Circle and a standoff continued with an armed suspect.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says that one of the officers was seriously injured in the Sunday morning shooting in Kotzebue, the regional hub for northwest Alaska villages.

The suspect remained holed up in his pickup truck late Sunday afternoon as authorities awaited the arrival of a trooper tactical team from Anchorage.

The seriously injured trooper has been flown to Anchorage for treatment. The second injured trooper received care at a local hospital.
